Moodle Course Evaluation Pilot, Term 1 2010, Final Report

Over the last few years course evaluations at CQUniversity Australia have suffered a steady drop in response rates, despite efforts to encourage students to participate. Consequently, a pilot project was conducted in Term 1 2010 to test the suitability of Moodle as a system solution to operating the course evaluation process.

One quantitative question and one qualitative question were used based on the University's current five-question survey. Twenty-nine courses were included in the final analysis.

The overall response rate for the pilot was 24% compared to 3.8% for the standard University course evaluation. The feedback provided by the participants in the pilot was favourable in regard to the required outcomes and no major IT problems were reported.

Discussions with the Moodle IT Support Team confirm that the pilot is sustainable and can be rolled out across all Moodle courses next term. Therefore, an extended project is to be conducted in Moodle in Term 2 2010. This will be a modified version of the Term 1 trial. It will comprise a single question based on the overall satisfaction index found in the Course Experience Questionnaire (CEQ), a further question requesting the location of enrolment and a text box for comments.
