The Residential Life Team is responsible for in-house pastoral care and after-hours support of Mackay Student Residence as well as the promotion of community life through the organisation of recreational and community activities as dictated by the relevant Residential Life Portfolios. Each house/floor has one Residential Advisor who is easily contactable and offers support to residents of the house. The Residential Advisors also make up the after-hours duty team who responds to any issues that arise outside of office hours. The Residential Life Team consists of the following; Residential Life Manager, Senior Residential Coordinator, Senior Residential Advisor and four Residential Advisors. Positions are now available within the Residential Life Team, please contact Kay Brodel on k.brodel@cqu.edu.au for more information.
All study/bedrooms are also equipped with a network broadband connection to enable access to the University's computing services including the Internet. Wireless network is also available.
Living in the residential community will enable you to meet many other students from different places in Australia and around the world. You'll also get to know students studying quite different discipline/subjects from you. The many life-long friendships made within residential accommodation's close-knit community also contribute to students feeling a greater belonging to the University and the City of Mackay. Every student has their own room so there is always a place to relax on your own or you can spend time with friends in the Common Rooms or at the Refectory.
The University facilities such as the library, bookshop and classrooms are a five minute walk across campus. The convenient location of the residential accommodation means that private transport is not absolutely necessary. Regular complimentary bus services are operated, for all residents, to major shopping centres and for other outings.
Living in the residential accommodation is estimated to save residents 12 to 15 hours per week by not having to attend to cooking, cleaning, shopping and travelling. With all your meals provided, no mowing or tidying of the yards, no cleaning of your room and bathrooms, you have a lot more available time to pursue your academic work, make new friends and develop new sporting or hobby interests.
