Industrial Process Engineering

The Industrial Processes Lab at the PELM Centre, CQU-Gladstone carries out Research and Consultancy work and provides technical expertise in the area of Process Engineering with the emphasis on fluid flow related problems.

The quality of the final product, the productivity of a process plant and its maintenance expenditure are largely determined by the reactions taking place in the flowing liquid, e.g. gibbsite precipitation, aluminium degassing and refining, corrosion etc. Many of those reactions are diffusion controlled, hence the velocity and flow patterns of liquid are the chief factors determining the rate of reaction, and also influence to a large extent the physical and chemical properties of a product. Thus our main aim is to contribute to the quality of products and the minimisation of running costs of the local industry through the optimisation of fluid flow parameters.

The capabilities of the Industrial Processes Lab include:

Corrosion erosion phenomena
Flow / Process simulation and CFD modelling
Fluids mechanics and multiphase flow
Rheology and material flow characterisation
Sustainable energy and management
Thermodynamics / heat transfer
Thermofluid process and transport

Air quality analysis and odour testing
