My career journey into nursing started way back in 2000 when I applied for a traineeship in aged care and completed it in 2001. In 2009 I started a Bachelor in Nursing at JCU, however at the end of 2009 my sister was in a car accident that took her daughter’s life. I had to have a break from work and study for several years. In 2015 I transferred to CQU to continue my nursing studies.
In 2017 I started working for Carinya Home for the Aged. Not long after starting there my dad was diagnosed with cancer and in 2018, just 10 months from diagnosis, dad passed away and our lives were shattered. At the end of 2020 I completed my nursing studies with the support of CQU, family and friends. Three years in to working as a registered nurse I have now stepped up to being an Associate Clinical Care Lead, which involves providing support for all staff on the floor, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals and making referrals to ensure quality care for our residents.
In 2023 I commenced my Masters in Gerontology. I have been working in aged care for over 24 years now and this is my passion. Life can be hard but through determination you can accomplish your dreams.
