Bethlea is employed as a Community Participation Officer for Fitzroy Basin Association (FBA) while also balancing her time as a small business owner of John Bell Mowing and Bellaleuca Grazing.

Bethlea joined the FBA Community Engagement Team in 2018, which focuses on empowering and funding others to implement environmental projects.

After completing a Diploma of Teaching (Primary), Bethlea worked for Education Queensland for five years, followed by a number of community development roles in various government departments and voluntary organisations. After a break to have children, she decided to dedicate the rest of her career to the environment - hence undertaking her Bachelor of Environmental Science at CQUniversity.

Bethlea enjoys converting funding opportunities and innovative ideas into environmental action on the ground - from ecosystem restoration to community-based social marketing to change behaviours.

Bethlea feels that the degree in environmental science has allowed her to transfer her passion into practice. The skills and knowledge gained are something she uses on a daily basis as she supports others with project development and implementation.
