Kodi was still in high school when a group of faculty members from CQUniversity visited his school to talk about university pathways. Kodi spoke to a PhD candidate who introduced him to the environmental science study options available at CQU.

During his studies, Kodi was given an opportunity to work for one of his lecturers on a project with BHP Mitsubishi Alliance for a few months. This gave him an excellent insight into the mining industry and was a critical helping hand in obtaining a job after graduation.

Two weeks after receiving his testamur. Kodi secured a full-time role at the Sojitz Meteor Downs South Mine. Kodi's favourite unit, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), equipped him with knowledge of GIS applications and processes that was one of the deciding factors in securing his job. His position involves environmental management, contractor management, stakeholder engagement, water and dust sampling, database management, GIS analysis and map-making.
