Endeavour Foundation Support Worker Danica Higgins-Perez knows she wouldn’t be where she is today if it wasn’t for the CQUniversity TAFE Careers Expos.

Ms Higgins-Perez, and Endeavour Foundation, have encouraged people looking for a new career path or vocation to consider attending the Expos, which will be held simultaneously at CQU’s Rockhampton City, Mackay City and Gladstone campuses on 17 January, 2024.

“A couple of years ago I attended a CQUniversity TAFE expo and was provided insight to the courses available and how easy it was to enrol,” Danica said.

“I decided to study leadership and management to broaden my mind and learn to think in an innovative and creative way.”

Danica undertook a Certificate IV - Leadership and Management, which enabled her to think without bias, encouraged her to see everyone’s point of view and improved her reasoning skills.

“The classroom sessions were engaging and provided plenty of opportunity for interesting exchanges with fellow students. The course taught me about different managerial styles as well as introspection and self-knowledge,” she said.

“Endeavour Foundation is a strong and diverse organisation, so participating in a Certificate IV in Leadership and Management has provided me with insight to view things from a technical approach and how to apply the right strategies when accommodating the people who I support and other team members."

Danica said a support worker was a meaningful career which enabled her to see beyond a person’s disability and help them gain independence in their lives and feel a part of the community.

Endeavour Foundation Operations Manager Andrea Dobson said the organisation will host a stall at the expos to showcase the careers on offer to show students how they can make possibilities a reality for people with a disability.

“CQUniversity’s TAFE Careers Expo is a great way to find out about future career pathways,” she said.

“CQUniversity offers a diverse range of courses that provide the skills and the values we look for in our support staff.

“We’re often looking for TAFE graduates with a Certificate III in Individual Support who would like to pursue support work as a career."

Andrea said Endeavour Foundation could also offer students who were training for careers in fields such as nursing and social work the opportunity to gain relevant paid experience while they study with a range of flexible working arrangements that fit around their studies.

“The quality graduates that CQUniversity TAFE produces are highly-valued by Endeavour Foundation and we regularly hire CQUniversity TAFE graduates into full-time, part-time and casual positions."
