Bank awards CQU students with $30,000 in scholarships
New opportunities await four first-year CQUniversity students, who each received a Community Bank Sarina Bendigo Bank Scholarship recently.
Scholarships are one way the Bank invests in young people locally, with their Community Engagement Program. Scholarships not only provide financial support for a student’s education, but also lead to lasting impacts on a student’s career opportunities, professional growth, and personal development.
CQUniversity student Brooke Jensen was awarded a $9000 scholarship towards completing a Bachelor of Accounting, which she says will “provide funds for essential learning resources, allowing [me to have] a full focus on my academic studies, without financial constraints".
“I am thrilled and deeply grateful to Community Bank Sarina for the scholarship, which will be instrumental in helping me reach my goal of becoming a qualified Accountant,” Ms Jensen said.
“This funding will ease financial stress, allowing me to continue with my involvement in basketball, volunteer work and any additional studies I may wish to pursue in the future.”
Maree Franettovich, Community Bank Sarina Deputy Chair, said the Bank has prioritised a partnership with CQUniversity since 2012 to provide scholarships, supporting students to stay local, study, work and play.
“Scholarships are a crucial investment in people and their aspirations – they instil confidence in students to achieve their goals and give them the opportunity to achieve more than they thought possible – right here in the greater Sarina region.
“This year’s recipients are studying a diverse range of bachelor and vocational subjects, and their passion and commitment to their local community and career ambitions shone through in their applications,” Ms Franettovich said.
“We look forward to seeing how these students grow throughout their studies, and they all have great promise as future leaders in our community.”
CQUniversity vocational student Emma Simpson received a $6000 scholarship towards her Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade and said she was strongly encouraged by her friends and family to apply, and she’s glad she did.
“I initially didn’t believe I had a chance in gaining the scholarship, but I am so grateful to Community Bank Sarina for this opportunity to pursue a trade with less financial pressure.”
This scholarship will open more pathways for me over the course of my studies and career, as I want to continue to gain more qualifications in the future,” Ms Simpson said.
Also awarded with 2024 scholarships were Jordana Kelly, who obtained a $9000 boost towards her Bachelor of Business, and Matthew Dorl, who received a $6000 scholarship towards his Certificate III in Electrotechnology – Electrician.
