CQUniversity has entered into a historic partnership with Townsville Airport that will see the two organisations collaborate on research, staff development and career opportunities for students.

“We’re thrilled to enter into this CQUniversity and Townsville Airport partnership-first that will provide so much opportunity to both organisations,” CQUniversity Dean of Engineering and Technology Professor Rabin Tuladhar said.

Professor Tuladhar said the strategic partnership would kick off almost immediately - with research on passenger observation the first item off the rank.

“CQUniversity’s Aviation team is already working behind the scenes with the airport to begin research with some original software that will assist both the University and the airport in understanding passenger movements at Townsville Airport,” Prof Tuladhar explained.

“The research aims to enhance safety protocols and operational efficiency,” he said.

Prof Tuladhar said the partnership would also provide work integrated learning (WIL) placements for CQUniversity students and researchers.

“Our aviation students can complete up to 240 hours of practical experience at Townsville Airport, providing them with invaluable airport operations experience.

“Moving forward, our plan is to work in partnership with Townsville Airport on opportunities that will ultimately benefit our students, the airport team and the broader community.”

Townsville Airport General Manager Brendan Cook said he was thrilled to collaborate with CQUniversity.

“Working closely with CQUniversity will allow us to leverage their expertise and research capabilities, which could lead to enhanced operational practices and an enhanced airport experience for our passengers,” Mr Cook said.

“We are particularly excited about the work-integrated learning placements for students,” he said.

“Providing them with hands-on experience at our airport aligns perfectly with our commitment to nurturing future talent in the aviation industry.

“This partnership with CQUniversity marks a new era of collaboration, fostering innovation and generating valuable opportunities for students, staff and our airport team alike.”
