Melbourne staff and students respond to the 'Batman Park' distress signal

12 March 2015

CQUniversity Melbourne staff and students have responded to a Clean-up Australia Day project in their local Batman Park, along the banks of the Yarra river.

Among the strange objects found was an old computer hard drive with a disc still in it.

The clean-up day was organised by the campus sustainability committee in conjunction with the SEA LIFE Trust, a charity which is devoted to protecting marine creatures and which champions the need for plastic-free oceans.

By preventing waste (including many cigarette butts) getting into local water courses, the CQUniversity team was able to head off problems for marine creatures further downstream.

The motto of the CQUniversity volunteers was 'Keep Australia Clean and Do Not Litter'.

CQUniversity Melbourne has been involved with Clean-up Australia Day for the past three years.
