17 November 2022

Christmas can be a tough time for many' that's why the CQUniversity Student Representative Council each year supports a worthwhile charity to support its community.

This year the Student Representative Council elected to support Share the Dignity's It's in the Bag drive for its annual Christmas appeal' collecting donations of essential items for women' girls and those who menstruate who are experiencing domestic violence' homelessness or simply doing it tough.

Student Representative Council members from various regions met at the Rockhampton North campus for a face-to-face meeting this week.

CQUniversity Student Enrichment Program Officer Gabbi Jeffs said the opportunity for members to come together in-person' not only for their regular meeting' but also to provide hands-on support to collect and pack items for this cause was a highlight of the initiative.

"Donations provide a little bit of love at Christmas' and students' staff' and the community have been very supportive with their donations for the appeal'" she said.

CQUniversity hosted 27 donation collections points across its Australia-wide footprint and students' staff and community members generously donated items in need.

In Rockhampton alone' the Student Representative Council packed 65 adult' teen and mum and bub bags which were dropped off at the local Bunnings Warehouse.

The manager of Bunnings Rockhampton was appreciative of the generosity of the CQUniversity community and the effort put in by the Student Representative Council.

"A big thank you must also go to our corporate sponsors Officeworks Rockhampton' The Body Shop Stocklands and Priceline Pharmacy Glenmore who donated items to this initiative."

Donation collection boxes remain on-campus until Friday 25 November' 2022. Please visit the Student Representative Council's Virtual Collection page for drop off locations' or to make a financial contribution.
