Digital media graduate inspires next generation of designers
If you have ever used the Officeworks website or the NAB mobile app' you've engaged with the work of CQUniversity alumnus and designer Alexander Byrne.
Alex graduated from CQUniversity in 2014 with a Bachelor of Multimedia Studies' the precursor of the current Bachelor of Digital Media.
Since that time' his career has taken him around the globe to London where he currently works as Lead Product Designer for Checkout.com' one of the most successful startups in Europe.
Alex recently returned to the CQUniversity Mackay campus to present a seminar to current Digital Media students about working in the media and communications industry.
During the session' he shared stories about his experiences leading the design of websites and mobile apps for big name brands such as Nike' Myer' Officeworks and NAB.
Alex also engaged the audience on practical topics such as landing your first job' working in a design agency' life as a freelancer' the rewards of being a designer' and the benefits of developing cross-disciplinary skills through a course like the Bachelor of Digital Media.
Reflecting on his presentation' Alex said that he felt motivated 'to give back and mentor younger designers.'
Students and staff alike appreciated the presentation.
A student named Phoebe said that she felt inspired to continue working in a junior role with a Mackay design agency while completing her studies.
Head of Course for Digital Media Associate Professor Steven Pace said' "We really appreciate Alex volunteering to share his professional experiences and insights with us. He has achieved some remarkable goals within a short period of time."
