Five CQUniversity-trained VET students nominated across two regions of the Queensland Training Awards

CQUniversity's vocational education and training excellence has once again been recognised with five students nominated across two regions in the 2021 Regional Queensland Training Awards.

CQUniversity has four finalists in the Central Queensland Regional Queensland Training Awards' in the categories of Harry Hauenschild Apprentice of the Year' Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year and Equity VET Student of the Year.

Harry Hauenschild Apprentice of the Year finalist' Jack Mitchell of Mackay' studied a Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade as a Fitter and Turner' and is employed by Jennmar Australia.

Certificate III in Business student Litia Pitt of Moranbah is nominated in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the year' as is Certificate II in Engineering student' Latitia Briggs. Litia works for Isaac Regional Council' while Latitia is employed by BHP Operations Services.

Mackay Regional Council employee Liticha McMullen was nominated in the Equity VET Student of the Year category' for her efforts while studying a Certificate IV in Human Resources.

CQUni also has a finalist in the North Queensland Regional Queensland Training Awards' with Diploma of Leadership and Management student Benjamin Jones nominated in the Vocational Student of the Year category.

CQUni Deputy Vice-President VET Peter Heilbuth congratulated all the finalists on their achievements.

Meanwhile' at the Tropical North Regional Queensland Training Awards' announced on 9 July in Cairns' a Mission Australia-led social enterprise that CQUniversity has provided Hospitality training for' called Café One' was named the winner of the Community Training Initiative of the Year category.

The regional final award ceremonies have again been replaced by an online campaign this year' as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The North Queensland regional winners will be announced on 23 July and the Central Queensland regional winners on 30 July.

Last year' CQUniversity trained students Shania Evans and Helena Kidd won their respective categories at the Central Queensland Regional Queensland Training Awards. Helena went on to be named Equity VET Student of the Year at the 2020 State Awards.
