Thesis Name

Discourses continuing to reinforce the acceptance of restraint practice in RACFs, despite policy promoting restraint disuse

Thesis Abstract

This study will use Critical Discourse Analysis to explore how language and communication has shaped meanings associated with ageing and aged care and ultimately restraint practice. Critical Discourse Analysis is used to examine social problems by analysing the relationship between text, communication and society. This study will explore discourse in media, RACF regulations, reports, policies, and government records, along with discourse from surveys and interviews with RACF owners and health workers.

Why my research is important/Impacts

This research will provide valuable insights into the relationships between systems, government, policy, legislation, the economics and cultural norms and how these relationships influence RACF restraint practice. This new knowledge may influence public policy which may change restraint practice.
