I've been able to give more time and attention to my studies
Heather Sander

My name is Heather Sander, and I am a CQUniCares Emergency Grant recipient and Bachelor of Education (Primary) graduate at CQUniversity Rockhampton.

I chose to study education because I could see how my children struggled with their schooling – I want to make a difference in their lives and in the lives of all children who struggle in school.

The emergency grant helped take the pressures off daily living and gave me the opportunity to buy textbooks and pay for living expenses. Trying to juggle four children (three with special needs) and study can be challenging.

When I found out my emergency grant application was successful I felt more confident in my abilities – there were just some things I didn’t need to worry so much about. I believe the more support offered to students, the better they succeed and become a valuable asset to our society.

I was certainly able to spend less time worrying about not having money to pay the bills and more time and attention on my studies.
