About the Vice-President, Research
The Vice-President, Research is a member of the University executive team and a key strategist responsible for shaping and implementing the institution’s vision of excellence in research and innovation.
As a member of the executive team, the Vice-President plays a major role in University's future strategic research direction and performance. The Vice-President's focus is on:
- Strategic planning
- Capacity-building
- Quality assurance and evaluation and
- Achieving the University's research and innovation goals
The Vice-President, Research is also responsible for:
- Governing committee for research
- Development and implementation of policies
- Compliance with regulations and reporting and
- Responding to sector changes that affect research and the University
- Ensuring the University's national and international research profile continues to grow and
- Fostering a research culture that encourages innovation, quality performance and engagement.
About Professor Grant Stanley
Professor Stanley arrived at the University in 2010 as the Dean of Medical and Applied Sciences and is currently the Vice-President, Research.
Grant holds undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from the University of Melbourne and has a background in Applied Microbiology/Biochemical Engineering, with research interests in biofuels, especially the production of second generation bioethanol.
Grant has experience in researching and teaching microbial metabolism, fermentation systems, bioreactor design and bioremediation. He has published more than 110 refereed and non-refereed papers, one international patent, has received a number of Category 1 funding grants and supervised 16 PhD students to completion.
Professor Stanley has been on the organising committee of a number of national and international conferences, chairs the Regional University Network DVCR Committee and is a board member and University representative for the Australian University Board of Trustees.
