Overview

Develop specialist knowledge and skills for research, professional practice and further learning in relation to domestic and family violence. You will be highly sought after by industry who faces a critical need for trained practitioners to reduce the instance of this important community issue. This course has been designed in consultation with industry and you will benefit from lecturers who are part of the Queensland Centre for Domestic and Family Violence Research, partly funded by the Queensland Government. This means you will have access to leaders in the field, and the opportunity to learn from and contribute to, the latest research. 

Through undertaking independent research related to your practice area/s of interest, you will have the opportunity to enhance your understanding of key domestic and family violence theories and approaches in fields such as working with victims/ survivors and perpetrator behaviour change interventions. Explore legal and safety considerations that arise from working in this area and consider ethical, professional and self-management implications for practice.

In collaboration with the Queensland Centre for Domestic and Family Violence Research, this qualification offers a pathway to further advanced qualifications in domestic and family violence research and education.

The knowledge and skills gained through completing this course are transferable across a wide range of professions and occupations where workers encounter victims/survivors and perpetrators of domestic and family violence, including criminal justice, child safety, health services and non-government organisations.

What you'll study

In this course, you will study a total of 12 units consisting of eight core and four electives.

The first eight units in the unit list below are the core units.  The elective units allow you to select four units from the following six:

  • DFVP20004 Child Safety and Domestic Violence
  • DFVP20005 Men's Behaviour Change Interventions and Practice
  • DFVP29001 Leadership and Management in Domestic and Family Violence Practice
  • DFVP29002 Advanced Skills for Men's Behaviour Change
  • DFVP290003 Integrated Services and Systems for Men's Behaviour Change
  • DFVP29005 Sexual Violence in Domestic and Family Violence Contexts

Indicative first-year fee

The Indicative First-Year Fee for a Full Fee Paying (FFP) Place is the approximate cost of enrolling in this course for one full-time academic year (this is usually eight units studied over two terms) and should be used as a guide only.
