PDC111511 - Introductory Calculus - Differentiation
Overview
Mathematics is used to solve many types of problems. This online micro-credential will introduce you to Differentiation. This includes differentiating polynomials and basic functions, differentiating with the product rule, quotient rule and chain rule, plotting curves using the derivative; and basic applications of differentiation to solve mathematical problems.
Students who successfully complete the CQUniversity School of Access Education's Applied Mathematics: Concepts and Skills set of 7 micro-credentials, may receive a unit exemption from the equivalent CL03 Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) unit with CQUniversity.
To be eligible for this exemption, students must have completed:

Undertaking this micro-credential enables students to meet their Continuing Professional Development obligations and industry update requirements in their profession. Students who successfully complete the set of 7 micro-credentials* developed from the unit MATH40252, Technical Mathematics for University, (which forms part of the Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) CL03), may be eligible for exemption, pending all other entry requirements to the Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) CL03 are being met, as automatic entry will not apply.

Structure & Availability
Micro-credential
Duration:24 hours online self-paced learning.
- Determine continuity and limit of functions
- Find the first derivative of a simple polynomial function using limits
- Find the derivative of various functions by rule including product, quotient and chain rules
- Use the derivative to find the slope of the tangent to a curve at a given point
- Find the higher derivatives of a function
- Use derivatives to sketch curves.

There are no specific entry requirements.
