Overview
Study the Bachelor of Speech Pathology (Honours) and equip yourself with the skills needed to start a rewarding and varied career in speech pathology.
Completing the Bachelor of Speech Pathology (Honours) at CQUniversity will equip you with valuable skills to enable you to work with people of all ages who have communication or swallowing difficulties. Your education and training will include a broad range of disciplines such as psychology, medical sciences and linguistics and phonetics, designed to ensure you graduate work-ready.
Completing placements in a variety of practice settings during your studies will enable you to gain valuable practical experience before you enter the workforce. This includes being part of a multidisciplinary team at the purpose-built Allied Health Clinic at CQUniversity Rockhampton where you will learn alongside students from other disciplines including occupational therapy, physiotherapy and oral health.
On completion of this course, you will graduate with a Bachelor of Speech Pathology (Honours) qualification. As part of your final year of study, you will be required to complete a research project on a topic relevant to speech pathology.

Speech and Hearing - SPCH12004
Students will engage in observations and/or clinical sessions with children for up to one half day per week, for a maximum of six weeks.
Speech Pathology Work-Integrated Learning 1 - SPCH12007
Students will engage in clinical sessions with children for up to one half day per week, for a maximum of 12 weeks.
Speech Pathology Work-Integrated Learning 2 - SPCH13001
Students will complete 1 full day or 2 half days per week of work-integrated learning in a clinic setting for the duration of the term.
Speech Pathology Work-Integrated Learning 3 - SPCH13006
Students will complete 1 full day or 2 half days per week of work-integrated learning in a clinic setting for the duration of the term.
Speech Pathology Work-Integrated Learning 5 - SPCH14006
Students will complete one block placement of 5 days/week for 6 weeks in a paediatric setting.
Speech Pathology Work-Integrated Learning 6 - SPCH14007
Students will complete one block placement of 5 days/week for 6 weeks in an adult setting.
Speech Pathology Work-Integrated Learning 4 - SPCH14009
Students will complete up to 15 hours per week in a work-based setting for the duration of the term.
To satisfy the requirements of the Competency Based Occupational Standards of Speech Pathology Australia you are required to undertake clinical placements. There are no minimum requirements in terms of the number of hours of placement but these occur throughout the course and will require attendance on both a daily and block placement basis. Block placements may be in a remote or rural setting.
