I originally chose CQU as I was interested in Oral Health but opted to study Nursing instead. Whilst completing placements for my Nursing degree I experienced a beautiful birth in a rural setting and decided that I ultimately wanted to be a midwife. 

I studied my Bachelor of Nursing in Rockhampton, completing my studies in 2018. After graduating I accepted a Nursing position in the Darling Downs region. In 2020 I decided to commence my studies as a midwife. I chose CQU to study Midwifery as I had been there for my nursing and enjoyed everything that was on offer through the uni and platforms. I continued to work as a nurse whilst completing my studies, completing placements in Toowoomba. 

When I completed my Midwifery degree in 2021, I continued nursing work until I started a midwife graduate program in 2022 in the Southwest. I have since been working at Roma Hospital in the Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) model of care. The MGP model of care involves a small team of midwives providing care to a number of women throughout their pregnancy, birth and postnatal periods and forming connections with them throughout that get them to their birth or aid them with their experience.

From starting as a new midwife who had never experienced MGP, to the current point in time: I have experienced a lot of different opportunities, situations, loss and strength. Working rural was exactly where I saw myself going with both nursing and midwifery, and it has been nothing short of a learning curve but also providing long lasting friendships and experience. Whatever I plan to do in the future, I see myself continuing on this path of nursing and midwifery, as I find providing care in both and being present to welcome a new baby into the world a beautiful thing. 

I am interested in moving to other rural or remote areas to expand my skills and knowledge or heading towards travel nursing/midwifery or flight nursing. The opportunities are endless!
