Prior to studying with CQUniversity I was a personal carer in an aged care facility, which allowed me to find my passion within the nursing role. I was also volunteering my weekends at the local Surf Lifesaving Club as the first aid officer and club captain. These prior experiences encouraged me to pursue a degree in nursing to continue my passion of helping the community in ways most others can't.
Once I finished my degree, I proceeded to complete a graduate position in theatre as a scrub scout and recovery nurse. I then moved to Melbourne to work for a further year as an operating theatre nurse, using all the skills I previously learned.Â
Afterwards, I decided I wanted to expand my nursing experience and now I am the nurse team leader and infection control coordinator of a local GP clinic with 10 doctors. In this role I am in charge of the treatment room in which we perform immunisations, procedures, dressing, emergency care, observations, venepuncture, suturing, care plans and so much more. I am also in charge of the infection control monitoring and training of other staff. My degree helped me learn the basics and important components of nursing in order to further my career in the real world.
