I became a paramedic after a career in international business, project management, sustainability compliance and resort management in Asia. Transferrable skills from previous careers, particularly in the customer service industry, have been highly advantageous within my current role.
After graduating with my Bachelor of Paramedic Science in 2019 I began working as a Paramedic with the London Ambulance Service (LAS). After two years I returned to Australia via Perth working as a Paramedic for St. Johns Ambulance WA. From a stable base of employment in Australia, I was able to focus on returning to the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) where I practice now.
My paramedic role with LAS included time at the height of Britain's COVID-19 and Monkey Pox response, and transition back to ‘normal’ emergency ambulance response. I enjoyed the experience of working for a number of different services and making the most of the strengths of each service.
With LAS I experienced a decentralised structure of paramedicine where scope and responsibilities of my role fell under my registration, as opposed to under the medical director of a centralised system in Australia. The extended array of alternate pathways for definitive patient care also required ongoing learning to enhance clinical examinations to optimize patient outcomes. When I returned to Australia I was able to incorporate this extended scope of skills and medications to operate to a high standard in both Metro and Country areas.
