Oral Health

Oral health therapists are dental professionals who are dual qualified in dental therapy and dental hygiene. Oral health therapists work as a member of a dental team to provide oral health assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management and preventive services in a variety of settings to children, adolescents and adults. This may include fillings, oral health promotion, periodontal/gum treatment, and other care to promote healthy oral behaviours.

All services are provided by Oral Health Students under the clinical supervision of registered health professionals.

Clinical services include:

  • Oral health assessment
  • X-rays
  • Management and preventive services, such as fillings, paediatric tooth extraction and cleans
  • Education
  • Mouthguards
The oral health clinic boasts modern health facilities, providing a practical learning experience for oral health therapy students. By choosing CQUniversity Oral Health Clinic, you are helping to shape our future dental workforce in Queensland.
At your dental appointment, you'll check in, complete paperwork, and review your medical history. The oral health therapist will conduct an examination and may take X-rays. Your teeth will be cleaned to remove plaque and tartar, then polished and flossed. The oral health therapist will examine your mouth for issues like cavities or gum disease, discussing any findings and treatment options. Preventive advice on oral hygiene will be given. If treatments are needed, appointments will be scheduled.

Our Services at the clinic are provided by students under clinical supervision, so they are not covered by Medicare or Private Health Insurance. If you’re looking for quality dental care and a supportive learning environment, CQUniversity’s clinic is a great choice.

A full exam with x-rays is approximately $80 - $90.

Telehealth allows you to connect with a healthcare professional online through a secure video and audio call using Zoom. CQUniversity Health Clinics are now offering telehealth consultations to staff, students, and the wider community.

Please enquire with reception staff to see if your practitioner can facilitate this. There is no need for you to create a Zoom account. The CQU Health Clinic Administration Team will send you an email to your preferred email address with your Zoom session information.

To ensure you have the best telehealth experience:

  • Please contact the clinic as early as possible before your scheduled appointment time if you cannot locate your email with the Zoom meeting link.
  • Ensure your laptop, mobile or device is charged up and you have a working camera and microphone.
  • Ensure you turn on both your camera and microphone when joining the Zoom meeting.
  • Space – Set up in a quiet, well-lit area which is large enough to allow you to perform exercise if required.
  • Privacy – you will need to be in an area where you feel comfortable enough discussing your health condition and wearing clothing you are comfortable to move in.
