Karn’s can-do attitude in the kitchen is the perfect ingredient for success
Karn Meesaeng is crafting her own joy of cooking in the training kitchens at CQUniversity’s Rockhampton City campus.
Karn said she decided to study a Certificate III in Hospitality not only to enhance her love of cooking, but to enhance her employability in the industry.
While training in the kitchens, Karn has acquired many new skills which she has put into practice when filling in at local Thai restaurants owned by friends.
“Cooking, for me, is a source of joy. It allows me to savour unique tastes, aromas and ingredients, and it brings me happiness. Sharing the dishes I cook with others adds to the enjoyment I find in the process,” she said.
“CQU TAFE was a natural choice due to its excellent reputation and recognised standing in the service industry. Additionally, its proximity to my home is a convenience.
“The course has provided me the opportunity to acquire a broad range of cooking skills, delve into various culinary traditions and gain insights into the science behind the art of cooking.
“Additionally, working in the kitchens fosters collaboration with peers, enabling the exchange of ideas and immediate feedback. All in all, the hands-on experience in the kitchens enhances the learning process, making it dynamic and enjoyable.”
Karn said undertaking the course was also about self-improvement and she encouraged anyone interested in hospitality to consider CQU TAFE.
“Studying hospitality provides a broad range of skills and career opportunities that can lead to a fulfilling and diverse professional life. It's a field that values customer service, adaptability and creativity, making it an attractive choice for many individuals,” she said.
“The teaching instructors are highly skilled and experienced professionals who can impart knowledge and offer excellent assistance.”
