CQUniversity Sydney has celebrated three decades of changing lives through education, commemorating 30 years of teaching, research and community engagement.

An anniversary celebration was held on campus and attended by more than 60 past and present staff, students, alumni and industry partners.

The milestone event was led by CQUniversity Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Nick Klomp and Chancellor Mr Graeme Innes AM.

Professor Klomp highlighted the transformative impact the Sydney campus has had on students and the broader community.

“Our graduates have gone on to achieve great things, both locally and globally, and their success stories are testament to the quality of education and support they received at CQUniversity’s Sydney campus.

“As a we have grown our operations and course offerings, welcomed tens of thousands of students, and now have more than 20,000 alumni who completed their studies at the Sydney campus.”

The Sydney location was CQUniversity’s first campus based outside of Queensland and first metropolitan site, launched in partnership with C-Management Solutions (CMS) in 1994. Based in the heart of the city, the campus operations and course offerings continued to grow, with CQUniversity later taking full ownership of CMS and the campus.

The campus now hosts teaching and research staff in the fields of business, management, accounting, public health, engineering, information technology and information systems. It also runs hands-on programs including sonography and echocardiography.

As the number of students have grown, so have the number of staff members, some of whom have continued to teach with the University for decades.

Professor Klomp also recognised some of CQU’s longstanding staff members, including Dr Meena Jha who has been with the Information and technology facility as a lecturer for 26 years.

10 years of service awards were presented to Alison Elliot, Deirdre Holliday, Ruth O’ Neill, Ana Shakya and Gabriela Toth.

“As we reflect on three decades of accomplishments, it’s only fitting that we also honour our dedicated staff as their service has made these achievements over the past 30 years possible,” Prof Klomp said.

“Looking ahead, we are excited about the future and the opportunities before us. As we continue to build on the strong foundation of the past 30 years, we are committed to furthering our mission of providing a world-class education and fostering a supportive and inclusive community. Together, we can achieve even greater success and continue to change lives through the work we do.”
