Master’s graduate is powering path in engineering
Equipped with new knowledge and skills from his Master of Management for Engineers, Dann Mark Del Mundo is set to make a significant impact in the engineering industry since graduating at CQUniversity’s Sydney Graduation Ceremony.
After first earning his bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Dann began his career in his home country of the Philippines, working as a test engineer within the semiconductor industry.
He said these early career experiences highlighted the importance of not just engineering expertise but also the ability to manage workloads, navigate challenges and lead teams effectively.
Motivated to upskill through postgraduate study, Dann said CQU’s reputation as one of the top management schools, and for its diverse learning environment, encouraged him to make the move to Australia.
“I realised that to truly stand out, I needed more than just my technical skills. I needed to equip myself with business management knowledge to become a competitive lead engineer in the future,” Dann said.
“CQU’s multiple campuses and the broad perspective they offer caught my interest. The diversity of information and the rich culture shared across campuses provided me with a deeper understanding of global practices.
“The University’s commitment to social equity and the experiences shared by fellow students further solidified my decision.”
He said the positive learning environment, campus culture and supportive staff at CQU bolstered his study experience and eased the transition to a new country.
“I was granted international student scholarship support which made finances lighter,” Dann said.
“I was also offered a student assistant job opportunity in the student engagement team while studying. I was able to work on the campus to support other students in their school and study-related concerns especially incoming students.
“This also gave me a chance to put into practice the soft skills I had developed during my two years at CQU.”
While Dann said only his wife was able to attend the Sydney graduation ceremony, his family were able to cheer him on from home as they watched via livestream.
“It was an experience of a lifetime for me to finish a post-graduate degree in Australia that I will forever be proud of,” he said.
“I also owe this to my wife who supported me throughout my study and had been my source of everything to finish my degree.”
Dann said his new qualification have already provided a strong foundation for future job opportunities and instilled in him the confidence to excel in his career.
“I was fortunate to secure a job during my last semester - even before graduation had taken place! CQU is recognised by employers and is even a partner of some, which has aided my career opportunities and connections,” he said
“I have been equipped with knowledge and experience competitive with the current job market with a plan to enter a specific field of electronics engineering and establish myself in their technology.
“My aim is to work my way into a leadership, management or principal engineer role. I look forward to what's in it for me in my upcoming years as a professional engineer as with my new engineering management skills as I am more confident than ever.”
