CQUniversity has partnered with St Augustine's College Cairns, signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will see students benefit from professional development opportunities in the Arts.

St Augustine's Head of Music, Cherie Spannenburg, welcomed the partnership following six weeks of negotiations.

“Initially projects to be undertaken will be within the Arts and professional development areas but the arrangement may well lead to other projects such as those in the sciences and high-performance sports," she said.

“There are some exciting ventures lined up for 2025 with more being planned. For example, these may introduce students to CQU’s Start Uni Now (SUN) program. The program allows senior high school students to include units from bachelor degrees with their secondary subjects.”

CQUniversity's Dean of the School of Education and the Arts Professor Stephen Dobson said he was excited to enter into the partnership.

“This is the start of a great collaboration connecting St Augustine’s staff, students and parents to the CQU community with its education offerings and exciting research,” Professor Dobson said.

“CQU is a proud regional university working for all – face-to-face and digitally, higher educationally and vocationally – growing collective skills and knowledge.”

Mrs Spannenburg added that the projects would enrich the offerings to CQU students in their learning and assessment.

“St Augustine’s cutting-edge professional recording studio is one facility that the university may find particularly useful.”

Importantly, she said the partnership would help provide academic pathways for further study at university and TAFE, showing students that they can undertake tertiary study without leaving Far North Queensland.
