Sydney students embark on leadership journey
International students from CQUniversity’s Sydney campus have enhanced their leadership skills through a collaboration with I-LEAD Australia.
Five students, Sampurna Thapa, Sahisa Sunuwar, Sara Soleimani, Aline Cristina De Araujo Silva, and Anu Tumurkhuyag, recently attended the I-LEAD Leadership and Networking Camp in Broken Bay.
Since 2016, I-LEAD and its sister program E-LEAD have partnered with CQUniversity to offer diverse leadership courses, both in Australia and abroad, tailored for domestic and international students studying in Australia.
These programs focus on fostering essential leadership qualities such as critical thinking, effective communication, and cross-cultural collaboration.
Bachelor of Information Technology student Sampurna Thapa said the leadership camp was an enriching experience that allowed her to grow personally and professionally.
“We explored what leadership means to us through collaborative activities, like creating visual representations of leadership ideas,” Sampurna said.
“The Leadership Pitch Challenge allowed us to ideate solutions to real-world problems, sparking meaningful discussions and setting the tone for the camp. In the Leadership Race Challenge we tested our problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
“We also received an inspiring talk which reminded us of the importance of stepping up as leaders during challenging times.”
Attendees received discounted price for the program campus thanks to support from the CQU Sydney Campus.
“I thank CQUniversity for providing us with such a wonderful opportunity,” Sampurna said.
“I am also deeply grateful for the scholarship and the reduced program fee, which made it possible for me to participate.”
CQU Sydney Campus Experience Coordinator Annette Kalczynska said the university was committed to creating valuable pathways for students to thrive.
“This collaboration highlights CQUniversity’s commitment to nurturing globally competent leaders,” Ms Kalczynska said.
“We are proud to see our students taking advantage of these opportunities to build skills that will serve them throughout their lives and careers."
