After years of hard labour as a diesel fitter in the mining industry, Trevor Ronnfeldt gave it all up to become a chiropractor – and now he’s helping others manage their pain in his hometown of Moura.

The 38-year-old, who operates the only registered chiropractic practice in Moura with his wife Renee, has revealed how CQUniversity’s Bachelor of Science (Chiropractic) changed his life for the better.

“The driving factor in me wanting to become a chiropractor is that I was a diesel fitter out at the mines at the time that my wife and I had our first child, and I broke my elbow and couldn’t pick my first born up,” he said.

“I looked around the workshop at the senior tradesman and I knew I didn’t want to continue down that career path they either had broken families or broken bodies.

“I always wanted to do something in health, and it wasn’t until I saw a chiropractor myself and gained relief from migraines and headaches that I then knew a career in chiropractic was what I wanted to pursue.”

Trevor moved to Brisbane to undertake his studies at CQU, completing a Bachelor of Science (Chiropractic) and a Master of Clinical Chiropractic, graduating from both with Distinction.

“The training was exceptional. They taught me everything I needed to know to look after my patients,” he said.

“I was really impressed with the course. The thing I loved about CQU was that there wasn’t one topic we couldn’t talk about. I loved the idea we could explore anything and everything about chiropractic, there was no bias or judgement about any question asked.

“From what I understand from all the people I have spoken to about other universities, we covered more. I felt we got a well-rounded education, and a broad range of curriculum. It was a new program when I attended, but it really did prepare me for what to expect in the real world. The whole education prepared me for most cases that could walk through the door.”

And Trevor is putting everything he learned into practice at Moura Chiropractic.

“I love being able to support our community’s health and wellness. What isn’t there to like? I see instant change in my patients and see the fruits of my labour," he said.

“There isn’t one person alive that isn’t physically broken in one way, shape or form. Being in a regional setting I meet the most genuine people and see cases I wouldn’t see in a metropolitan setting.

“I must think outside the box. It’s a much more challenging, exciting and fulfilling role in a regional setting because I see different things all the time and I’m not doing the same things over and over.”
