CQUniversity honours esteemed artist Peter Cousens and gives back with special performance
One of Australia's top music theatre performers and CQUniversity graduate Peter Cousens AM is set to grace the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music (CQCM) theatre stage next week with a one-night performance on Tuesday' 11 May.
The Mackay performance will be held to celebrate Mr Cousens' graduation from CQUniversity's Master of Arts degree where he will receive a Companion of the University award for his support and development of creative and performing arts in the community.
"I am honoured to receive this award from CQUniversity and wanted to commemorate the occasion with a performance alongside my master's degree principal supervisor Professor Judith Brown AM as associate artist on piano'" Mr Cousens said.
"The show will feature some defining musical moments in my career in Australia and overseas' including songs from The Phantom of the Opera' Carousel' Floyd Collins and Les Miserables."
As the Artistic Ambassador for the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music at CQUniversity' Mr Cousens has also been a significant influence and inspiration to the staff and students at CQCM according to Director Professor Judith Brown AM.
Mr Cousens was the first Australian to play the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera on the West End' and during his career has premiered many major roles alongside performances on television and film.
"Peter has had such a strong and long association with CQUniversity and has directed many plays and musicals at the Conservatorium of Music' including two productions which were part of two international study tours to Kuala Lumpur'" Prof Brown said.
"His mentorship for staff and students over the years has been outstanding' enabling the Bachelor of Theatre and Bachelor of Music students to benefit from his international experience as a performer in a wide variety of genres."
