Have you wondered what it would be like to teach, live, and explore a rural or remote community in QLD? Now is the chance! The Beyond the Range Professional Experience Grant will provide eligible preservice teachers with a grant in Semester 1, 2024 to complete a professional experience placement in an eligible rural or remote QLD state school that has a transfer rating of 4-7.
To be eligible, you must be enrolled at an Australian University:
- in your 3rd/4th year of an undergraduate or 1st/2nd year of a postgraduate initial teacher education program
- hold a QLD Working with Children Blue Card.
The placement must be undertaken in a QLD state school that has a transfer rating of 4-7 and is located:
- at least 2 hours (each way) from where you currently live to the state school, and
- within Central QLD, Darling Downs-South West, Far North or North QLD, or North Coast (select schools).
Refer to the Choose your teaching adventure booklet for the eligible state schools. Agnes Water, Lowmead and Wartburg in the North Coast are not eligible for the grant nor are private or independent schools.
Schools with a transfer rating of 2-3 should consider the Regional Professional Experience Grant.
Candidates who are on permission-to-teach may be eligible if undertaking an unpaid placement and meet the eligibility criteria (above). Contact the department's Scholarships and Grants team (S&G team) to confirm your eligibility.

Incomplete applications/applications submitted less than 6 weeks before the placement start date may result in a delayed payment including receiving the grant while on placement. If you experience difficulties uploading your documents, email them to the S&G team.
Step 3 - Grant offers
You'll be advised of the outcome within 3 weeks of applying for the grant to seek further information or to provide an offer. Regularly check your email junk/spam folders.
