The CQUniCares Accommodation Scholarship assists undergraduate students from regional and remote Australia, low socio-economic status (SES) backgrounds, and/or Indigenous persons with expenses associated with relocating to Rockhampton Capricornia College or Mackay Canefield College for the purpose of undertaking internal studies at CQUniversity.


To be eligible to receive the CQUniCares Accommodation Scholarship successful applicants must:

  • Be identified as living in regional and remote Australia, low socio-economic status (SES) backgrounds, and/or Indigenous persons for the duration of enrolment with CQUniversity. 
  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate course of study in Term 1, 2025:
    • Bachelor
    • Associate Degree
    • Advanced Diploma (Higher Education)
    • Diploma (Higher Education)*
  • Be studying a minimum term study load of 6 credit points or more at Census date of Term 1, 2025.
  • Be relocating to live on-campus at Mackay or Rockhampton in order to study.
  • Be an Australian, New Zealand Citizen or holder of an Australian Permanent Visa**
  • Not currently in receipt of a CQUniversity Scholarship/Sponsorship or a Scholarship/Sponsorship where payments are administered by CQUniversity.

** Must have a permanent home address in Australia

Applicants are required to provide a 500-word personal statement addressing the following question:

How would a CQUniCares Accommodation Scholarship assist with your studies?

As per the Higher Education Participation and Partnerships Program (HEPPP) Funding requirements, the funds provided as part of this program are directed exclusively towards students studying an undergraduate course from regional and remote Australia (as defined by ABS), low socio-economic status (SES) backgrounds (as defined by ABS), and/or Indigenous persons.

As a scholarship recipient, you will be asked to participate in a feedback survey. You may also be approached to assist with positively promoting the CQUniversity Scholarships program by sharing your experiences as a recipient through media or invited to attend events such as Orientation or Open Day.

CQUniversity has a range of support services located on our website Student Support Services and Financial Preparedness.

Payment of scholarship

Payment of accommodation will be made directly to the CQUniversity Student Residential College on behalf of the successful applicant. Students are required to contact the Student Residences team to book their choice of available accommodation by emailing studentresidences@cqu.edu.au.

The scholarship will include:

  • Application Fee
  • Facilities Levy per term
  • 15 weeks accommodation per term (Term 1 and 2 only – does not include vacation weeks)

This scholarship cannot be amended, transferred or redeemed for cash. This scholarship does not include linen or any other fees or charges issued by Capricornia College or Canefield College.

Ongoing Eligibility

 In addition to the eligibility requirements the successful applicant must:

  • Continue to meet the conditions in the Eligibility Criteria section at Census date of Term 2, 2025.

Continue to reside primarily on-campus at the CQUniversity Capricornia College or the Mackay Canefield College.

  • For Current students (applicants who already have a Student ID number) apply through MyCQU.
  • For Future students (applicants who have applied or are intending to apply to study at CQUniversity but have not yet received or accepted an offer) apply now.

Complete applications must be received by 10 am AEST on the closing date.

As there are a limited number of scholarships available, all scholarships may be exhausted prior to the advertised closing date.   Students will be notified of the outcome of their application via their student email accounts only. Decisions are final.
