Your studies will focus on developing a range of tourism sales, operational and tour delivery skills. This qualification reflects the role of individuals who use a range of well-developed tourism service, sales or operational skills and sound knowledge of industry operations to coordinate tourism services. Using discretion and judgement, they work with some independence and under limited supervision using plans, policies and procedures to guide work activities.

This qualification provides a pathway to work in many tourism industry sectors and for a diversity of employers including tour operators, inbound tour operators, visitor information centres, holiday parks and resorts, attractions, cultural and heritage sites, and any small tourism business. It allows for multi-skilling and for specialisation in office-based roles involving the planning and coordination of tourism services, in roles in the field where products are delivered or in performing operational activities such as housekeeping, grounds maintenance and providing customer service.

This course is typically delivered over 1 year, 2 Semesters, full time. However, as it is competency based, it may be possible for learners to complete their training sooner if they have reached the required skill level.  The time allocation for this program may also include the clustering of units of competency for delivery which allows similar or complementary content items to be delivered at the same time thus reducing duplication in content covered and therefore reducing time required. The existing skills, knowledge and experience of learners will also be taken into consideration of amount of training required for this program cohort. Credit transfer for units previously completed at a Nationally Recognised Training Organisation may also reduce the time of this program.

RPL involves an assessment process of an individual’s previously obtained skills and knowledge that has been achieved outside the formal education and training system. The duration is dependent on evidence collection by the candidate and approval of evidence by the CQUniversity assessor.

This course has no residential schools.

Students will need to be working in a suitable tourism, events, or hospitality business, as a paid employee or volunteer, in a customer focused role, using organisational policies and procedures to guide work activities, working with some independence, and providing guidance to other staff.

There are no minimum required hours as these are competency-based assessment tasks.

The supervisor who signs the forms (we will supply the forms) must have relevant qualifications or experience for the unit they are signing off.

        - Evidence of this is to be supplied to CQU for audit purposes.

        - The Supervisor will be contacted to verify these forms

Requirements

There are no entry requirements for this qualification. However, CQUniversity requires completion of bksb (Basic Key Skills Builder) online literacy and numeracy assessment prior to enrolment, unless the student has completed an equal or higher-level course.

There is a requirement to complete practical workplace assessments in a suitable industry environment.

Access to a computer, Internet and intermediate computer skills. 24-hour CQUniversity computer labs are available on selected campuses.

Fee for Service/ Full Fee

Fee for Service/Full Fee occurs when the full tuition fee is charged to students. This may occur when the course is not included in government subsidy program/s or the student is not eligible for a government subsidy. These students are obligated to cover the entire cost. Co-Contribution and Co-Contribution Concessional Fee

Some government subsidies, such as Certificate 3 Guarantee, will require the individual to contribute to the cost of their training through a co-contribution fee. Government subsidies are subject to eligibility.

The fee will vary based on the course chosen and the eligibility of the student for a concession rate. The co-contribution fee represents the total cost to the student for tuition. There are other costs that the student may have to pay, including but not limited to uniforms and course resources. This will vary depending on the training.
